Henri Rivière, a Post-Impressionist painter from Paris, France, was deeply influenced by Japonisme and painted "Thirty-six Views of the Eiffel Tower" (Les Trente-Six Vues de la Tour Eiffel) after Katsushika Hokusai's "Thirty-six Views of Mount Fuji".
This work was inspired by one of his series, "Notre Dame Cathedral", painted in 1902. It was created in honor of the ceremony for the reopening of Notre Dame Cathedral, which too k place at the same time as EXCALIBUR's solo exhibition in Paris in 2024. In Henri Rivière's work, the sky is cloudy with lots of smoke rising from the chimneys of the city of Paris, but in this work, an airplane is flying over the unchanged Parisian cityscape.
フランス・パリ出身のポスト印象派の画家アンリ・リヴィエールは、ジャポニスムに深い影響を受け、葛飾北斎の「富嶽三十六景」に倣って「エッフェル塔三十六景」を描きました。
この作品は、1902年に描かれた連作のひとつ「ノートルダム大聖堂」にインスパイアされたものです。2024年にパリで開催されたEXCALIBURの個展と同時期にノートルダム大聖堂の再開の式典が開催され、敬意を込めて制作されました。アンリ・リヴィエールの作品では、パリの街の煙突からたくさんの煙が立ち上って空を曇らせていますが、本作では、変わらないパリの街並みの上を飛行機が飛んでいます。
