Inspired by Hiroshige's "Kanasugi Bridge and Shibaura" No.80 from "One Hundred Famous Views of Edo".
When Hiroshige painted it, the view of Edo Bay could be seen from Kanasugi Bridge in Shibaura. Today, however, Kanasugi Bridge is now under the elevated Metropolitan Expressway, and the area under Kanasugi B ridge has become a mooring area for houseboats.
It is said that the bridge was named "Kanasugi (Golden Cedar) Bridge" because there used to be a shiny, shining bead tree near the bridge that could be seen from the sea. The tree has since disappeared, but today, under the bridge, brightly lit houseboats reflect their light on the river surface night after night.
広重の「名所江戸百景」第八十景になる『金杉橋芝浦』をヒントに現代の金杉橋を描いています。広重が描いた当初は、芝浦の金杉橋から江戸湾を臨むことができましたが、現在は首都高速の高架下となり、橋の下は屋形船の係留場所となっています。かつて橋の近くに、海から目印にするほど光り輝くセンダンの木があったことから、「金杉橋」と名付けられたと言われています。いつしかその木はなくなってしまいましたが、現在橋の下では、夜な夜な鮮やかな屋形船が光を川面に映しています。
